Ex-JFK Sailor needs help -- FAST
Can anyone help this gentleman? FYI I have forwarded him the decomm rsvp e-mail address already. but if you have advice for him please e-mail him and let him know what to do to get into Friday's decommissioning.
here's the e-mail i got from him this morning:
Jeff, I know this is short notice but I need to attend the Ceremony. I was a MM onboard JFK from 1983-1989. She was my first ship. I arrived as a MM3 and left as MM1. I seen my first overseas port visit and 3 Med cruises. She is the best ship in the fleet. I sent email to PAO requesting confirmation for 2, My wife and I. I live in Jacksonville and hae base stickers to get on, but what else would I need?
Thanks

I went to the pass office with my invitation at 7:15 this evening and was told that's all I need to get on the base. The nice lady at the pass office said there was an alumni event going on and invited me to drive to the ship. So I did and it worked. I have NO military sticker on my car. The invitation and my drivers license got me on the base. I drove down to the pier and saw the ship.
The "event" was a dinner for all the ex-CO and XO's. I was unable to convince the guard that I was an ex-CO so I didn't get on the ship. unfortunately, they had a list. I did meet Rebecca the nice public affairs officer who sent me the long email.
I plan to get there early tomorrow just in case there's an outside chance I can talk my way onto the ship. I'd love to get into Forward I.C.
