No Kennedy tours

Since I've gotten back from the USS John F. Kennedy's Boston-to-Jacksonville voyage, several people have e-mailed me asking if the ship will be open to the public before its March 23 decommissioning. The answer is no. Due to the ship's late departure from Kennedy, plans for public tours had to be scrapped, a ship spokesman said.

Also, if you read this blog let your friends know we are going to keep it going at least up through the ship's decommissioning and possibly beyond. If you have questions about the Kennedy or what's next at Mayport, post them here.

Will you be posting more pictures from the trip and the return to Mayport? I'd love to see more and hear more.

JFK's decommissioning date is March 23. I hear they are expecting about 5,000-7,000 people. Thanks for writing. j

When the USS John F Kennedy was Commissioned in 1968, I was able to attend with my father CDR Ray J Stacy USN (Ret). I was stationed aboard the USS JFK from July 1980 to June 1982 in the OX Division. The JFK was stationed in Norfolk VA at that time. The JFK left port on August 5, 1980 for the Med and was deployed through March 1981. My two sons, John and Michael, were able to fly to Malaga Spain where I met up with them and they spent 2 weeks aboard ship on a "Tiger Cruise" back to home port Norfolk.. I reenlisted on the JFK and my father was able to give me the Oath of reenlistment along with Capt Hernadez. My wife Claire served on the Board of the JFK Enlisted
Wives Club as Vice President for 1 year. I served my country for 23 years and retired from the Navy September 1993.
